1890s...

Back in the day, the Benefield House was affectionately known as the "Gay 90s" house, a name proudly displayed on its historical marker. The nickname came from the many joyful social gatherings and lively affairs hosted here during Jefferson's bustling heyday.

1907...

The home became the Benefield House in 1907 when local attorney J.H. Benefield and his wife Justa Glass Benefield purchased it. Together with their two children, the family called this house home for an incredible 91 years. A legacy of warmth and tradition that still lingers in every room today.

Mrs. Benefield, a beloved schoolteacher, even taught Lady Bird Johnson in her classroom. Their connection ran deep. So much so that when Lady Bird was First Lady, Mrs. Benefield and several local friends were invited to the White House for a special luncheon. Rumor has it Lady Bird even dated the Benefields’ son for a while and visited this very home many times!

2022...

Tommy and Nicole are the new innkeepers of the Benefield House Bed & Breakfast. After many years of searching for the perfect home in Jefferson, they purchased the property in 2022. Their love story with the town began in 2006, when they first visited on their honeymoon and quickly fell in love with its magical charm. Ever since, they dreamed of one day owning a bed and breakfast here.

That dream became reality in May of 2022, when, during one of their many visits, they stopped in front of the Benefield House Bed & Breakfast to admire the craftsmanship of the beautiful Victorian home—only to discover it had just been listed for sale. Just six weeks later, they became the proud owners. Today, Tommy and Nicole are thrilled to share both the history and the romance of the Benefield House Bed & Breakfast with every guest who walks through its doors.
